Listen to a real call
What your child hears
Santa:Ho ho ho, Emily! It's Santa Claus! I was just thinking about you. Can you hear me?
Child:Um, yes. Hi, Santa.
Santa:Well hello, Emily. That is a lovely clear voice. Pepper still steals your pillow, doesn't she?
Child:Wait, how do you know about Pepper? Mom, mom, he knows my cat.
Santa:Santa knows little things, my dear. Cats leave the softest clues.

The quick comparison
Most "Santa phone numbers" are one of three things: a recording, a voicemail box, or a real conversation. They look the same on a list of numbers, but they feel completely different to a five-year-old.
| Option | What your child hears | Talks back? | Cost | When |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| NORAD Tracks Santa, 1-877-HI-NORAD | A live volunteer says where Santa's sleigh is | Yesbut it's a volunteer, not Santa | Free | December 24 only |

Which one should you pick?

It depends on your child's age and what you want the moment to be.
- Toddlers (2–3): a free recorded greeting is plenty. They love hearing "Ho ho ho" on the phone and won't notice Santa doesn't answer questions.
- Ages 4–7: this is where a recording can fall flat. Kids this age ask Santa things — "how many reindeer are there?", "did you get my letter?" — and wait for the answer. A live call is worth it here.
- Ages 8+ and doubters: a live call where Santa knows something only Santa could know (the cat's name, the bike they learned to ride) is the most convincing thing you can do. A voicemail box is the least.
- A behavior nudge: there is a separate naughty list call format where Santa brings up one thing your child is working on.
How a live call with Santa works
We make one of these, so here is exactly how ours works — other live services differ in details, and we list them on the AI Santa page.
- 1
You fill in a short form: your child's first name, age, town, and two or three "secrets" — things Santa couldn't possibly know, like a pet's name or something they're proud of this year.
- 2
You pick the length — 2, 3 or 5 minutes — and pay once. No subscription.
- 3
When you're ready (that evening, or on Christmas Eve), you open the link, hand your child the phone, and Santa calls in the browser. No app to install.
- 4
Santa hears your child and answers straight away, bringing up the secrets naturally. If your child freezes, he keeps the conversation going with easy questions.
- 5
A recording is saved for you to keep. Unused minutes stay on your account for another call.
Santa's voice is AI. It is a real two-way conversation, not a recording, which is why we tell parents up front — some families prefer to know.
Tips for a call that goes well
- Pick a quiet room and use the speaker. Background TV confuses any phone call, human or AI.
- Give Santa one or two secrets, not ten. One perfectly placed detail beats a list.
- Stay in the room. Shy kids often answer better with a parent's hand on their shoulder.
- Don't script your child. The best moments are the unplanned questions.
- If they go quiet, that's normal. Most children warm up by the second minute.

Questions parents ask
Is there a real phone number for Santa?
Yes — several free lines play a recorded message from Santa, the best known being FreeConferenceCall's Santa Hotline, +1 (605) 313-0691. Numbers change between seasons, so dial it yourself before handing the phone to your child. See Santa's phone number for the full list.
Can Santa call my child back?
Free hotlines don't call back. Live call services, including ours, can: you choose the moment, and Santa calls your child in the browser.
What is the best free way to talk to Santa?
For a phone call, the FreeConferenceCall Santa Hotline. For a back-and-forth conversation, a free text chat with Santa — ours needs no sign-up. On December 24, NORAD's phone line is free and staffed by real people.
Is it okay to let my child talk to an AI Santa?
It's your call. Our Santa never asks children for personal details — the only things he knows are what you type into the form — and he keeps to kind, child-friendly topics. Many parents listen in on the speaker the first time.
